Welcome to Royal Girls' Academy
Once upon a time, in a city by the ocean, a teacher had a dream. A dream to build a school that will forever set the standard of what education should be, a school that would emphasize comportment, poise, and decorum with academic excellence… a school for GIRLS. The dream of an ideal Christian boarding secondary school for girls had throbbed in the mind of the proprietor, Christie Jumbo, since the nineteen eighties. In 1994, precisely on 10th October, that dream came true and Royal Girls’ Academy was born. The first of its kind in Rivers State, Nigeria.
Welcome to Royal Girls’ Academy (RGA). Established in 1994 with 12 girls in JSS1. It has for over 29 years been delivering on its promise to produce a crop of girls that are intelligent, disciplined, and confident (not arrogant). Old girls of this institution easily stand out wherever they go for their intelligence, poise, and comportment.
In RGA, we recognize each girl as an individual and fully support her in the discovery and attainment of her highest potential. New talents are explored and discovered within an inspirational climate which encourages learning, risk-taking, and high standards.
As a comprehensive school committed to providing opportunities for all girls, we set ambitious and challenging targets for all our students and work in tandem with them to meet and exceed these targets. Our staff employ a range of innovative teaching styles and create a classroom culture that inspires a passion for learning. Aspiration, achievement, and advancement lie at the heart of the School, and girls are encouraged to explore and discover their academic and co-curricular strengths.
The RGA TESLA Programme focuses on preparing high achievers for the most competitive career pathways, and our STAR programme prepares all students to aim a little higher each term.
Enrichment is at the centre of our work here at RGA, with our Project 360 curriculum, which builds the skills and aptitudes employers look for, the tenacity and resilience that make a successful entrepreneur, and the character and empathy that make a true leader. Project 360 features insightful coursework, stimulating electives, thought-provoking discussion sessions, and individual projects with impact on the students’ immediate communities.
With facilities to cater for over 400 students, the school is big enough to offer the depth and breadth of opportunities, and small enough to care. We are a close-knit community of intelligent young women, each developing the courage to challenge convention, the confidence to make her own decisions, and the strength of conviction to be herself.
