Boarding Experience

The House System

Our school’s community is underpinned by five Houses, offering senior girls opportunities to develop leadership and independence while supporting younger students. All Houses are named after great women in the Bible, except Grace-Toje House, named after a late friend of the proprietors who was a renowned sportswoman and woman of faith.

The care and wellbeing of every student is overseen by a dedicated pastoral team, led by the Governess. The team includes hostel mistresses, assistant hostel mistresses, and nurses.

In addition, students are assigned to supervisors—regardless of House affiliation—who serve as their primary caregivers. Supervisors work closely with students on a daily basis, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to help them develop into healthy, confident, and well-rounded individuals.

RGA hostels are spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed to support boarding life. Students live according to their Houses, with each House having a live-in hostel mistress and assistant responsible for students’ welfare.

Boarding life is well-structured and effectively monitored. A school-wide public address system, wired into rooms and classrooms, ensures clear communication between staff and students. Girls begin each day with uplifting morning songs and end the day with softly told bedtime stories.

To promote personal responsibility, students are responsible for cleaning their rooms, while sanitary staff take care of toilets and common areas.

Hostel life is enriched with a variety of activities designed to encourage healthy competition, teamwork, and confidence among the Houses. These include:

  • Swimming

  • Dancing

  • Debates

  • Impromptu speeches

A highlight of boarding life is the Saturday Event, dedicated entirely to fun and relaxation. Activities include water balloon fights, treasure hunts, and other engaging games. Hostel mistresses actively participate and lead their Houses during these events, creating a vibrant and supportive community spirit.

The School Medical Centre is equipped to:

  • Provide first aid to students and staff

  • Offer preliminary and minor medical treatment

  • Notify parents if a student does not respond to treatment within 24 hours

  • Contact parents immediately if a student with a known medical history reports to the Health Bay

  • Organise health enlightenment programmes

  • Arrange hospital care in emergencies

Any medical costs incurred outside the scope of the school’s medical staff are borne by parents.
